Explore the souks and creek of Old Dubai with a longtime resident who cuts through the touristy spiel with her stories and local insights.

  • Skip the usual touristy route and appreciate Old Dubai through the eyes of a resident who is a 'child of Dubai.'
  • Check all the must-see places of Old Dubai off your itinerary: spice souk, gold souk and an abra ride across the creek.
  • Enjoy personalized interactions; the group is no more than 12 people and there's no herding with a flag!
  • Dispel myths about the role of women in society with a visit to a hidden museum near the souks that few tourists ever find.
  • Visit a family-run Iranian kabab institution from the 70's; this is where locals and even cops pull up for the real deal kababs.
  • Feel like you are being shown around by a local friend, rather than a tour guide, who shares lively anecdotes rather than a stock script.

Walking only; distance covered is ~2.8km/1.7mi with stops in between.

Dubai, a city of charm and enchantment, is brimming with gorgeous sights, architecture and culture. Most travelers arrive fully aware of the new and tall attractions but often overlook the city’s origins. Old Dubai is what has given the city its own unique flavor. It showcases an important part of Dubai’s dynamic history and holds the childhood stories of how Dubai transformed itself from desert to destination.
Wander with the passionate and knowledgeable Nada through old Dubai, as she winds her way through its historic souks and narrow lanes rich in stories and traditions. The walk is sure to build up an appetite that is sated in the way Old Dubai knows best—with a plate of succulent kababs (or a vegetarian treat), rice and a generous spoonful of lively chatter with Nada.

1950s Historical House

This traditional house has been converted into a small museum; it provides an apt discussion ground for stories around Emirati women and their historical roles in society.

Dubai Souks: Deira Gold and Spice Souks

Walk through the enticingly aromatic souk; learn about saffron and traditional spices; peek into the glittering Gold Souk to see some extravagant bling on sale.

Abra across the Creek

Use this earliest of transportation modes to cross the creek; get a glimpse of the beautiful blue wooden trading boats which evoke Dubai's maritime history.

Dubai Souks: Bur Dubai Textile Souk

Stroll through an alleyway lined with vibrant textiles, cushions, shawls and more.

Lunch

Savour heartwarming soup and authentic Iranian kababs at a local favourite, family-run restaurant that's been fanning its charcoal since 1978; vegetarian option available.

Meet your guide, Nada, outside Entrance #2 of the Al Ras Metro Station. This is the entrance right beside Al Khor Road. All guests should arrive 15 minutes prior to tour start time in order to avoid any potential traffic delays. If delayed past tour start time, we'd request you to follow the instructions noted on your e-ticket.

Given the heavy traffic, limited parking and different starting and ending locations, we strongly recommend that you take the metro rather than driving to the trail.

Meeting Location

12 Al Khor St - Dubai - United Arab Emirates

Have questions? Here are the most frequently asked.

Are bathrooms available during the walking tours?

Yes, bathrooms are available during our Middle Eastern Food Pilgrimage, Little India on a Plate and Old Dubai Souks and Stories tours at selected stops. The Emirati Cooking Session and Lunch takes place at a restaurant which is equipped with a bathroom.

For the Unseen Trails experiences,

  • We have two bathroom breaks towards the start of our Dubai Desert Conservation Trail and one towards the end on our return journey to the city; once the drive through the desert begins, every tree is a lavatory!
  • For Naif by Night and Old Dubai Iftar Walk, we recommend using the bathrooms in the metro station before the tour starts (you need to purchase a card to enter the metro). We also have a bathroom stop at the dinner restaurant towards the end of the tour.
  • For the Indian Festival of Lights experience, we recommend using the bathrooms in the metro station before the tour starts (you need to purchase a card to enter the metro). We also have bathroom stops at the restaurants featured through the tour.

What do we do in case of bad weather?

The tours are very rarely cancelled due to bad weather. We will email you at least 4 hours prior to the tour should it not be advisable to walk outside due to a thunderstorm or sandstorm; please make sure to check your email if you are aware of bad weather. We also advise you to check weather conditions for your tour and dress appropriately.
