  • Learn native Emirati recipes from an English-speaking chef who collected recipes from mothers and grandmothers in the local community.
  • Discover authentic Emirati ingredients that most expats and tourists never learn about: 'loomi,' 'bezar' and 'malleh.'
  • Quiz the chef to your heart's content! He is super friendly and loves sharing his knowledge of Emirati cuisine.
  • Be as hands-on as you like! Volunteer to help the chef prepare the family style dishes or observe and taste as the dishes are prepped.
  • Walk away with recipe cards and the restaurant's signature spice blend; buy an Emirati cookbook that is not available online!
  • Don't fret about breakfast; the restaurant has you covered with tea, coffee and scrumptious date and cheese pastries.

The minimum age to join the tour is 12 years. Strollers and infants are not permitted on the tour.

The tour requires a minimum of 8 guests; we may cancel and refund tickets if the minimum is not met.

Learn the native Emirati cuisine at an Emirati cooking class that takes place steps away from the historic Dubai creek.

Emirati food has traditionally been cooked and savoured at home or in public kitchens known only to the locals. But recently, there has there been a newfound emphasis on sharing Emirati culinary heritage with residents and travelers alike. Chef Uwe Micheel, Director of Kitchens at Radisson Blu Deira Creek, President of the Emirates Culinary Guild and author of Flavours of Dubai, is a pioneer of Emirati culinary awareness and has launched an award-winning restaurant featuring both traditional and modern Emirati dishes.​

Visit Chef Micheel’s restaurant, Aseelah, to learn about spices and ingredients used in Emirati cuisine. The session will begin with coffee, tea and date pastries to get you fueled up for the interactive demo. Chef Rabeh Amer, a Syrian-born chef with deep passion, curiosity and flair for Emirati cuisine and Chef de Cuisine of Aseelah restaurant, will lead the cooking session. Watch as he prepares four traditional dishes, and volunteer to toss, mix, knead and plate if you like! While the date bread will not last for more than a few seconds after it slides off the griddle, patiently wait for lunch to test your other three creations.

Walk away with recipe cards and the restaurant’s signature spice blend. If you’re an avid cook, buy a copy of Chef Micheel’s cookbook so you can recreate the flavours of this fragrant, hearty and resourceful cuisine at home.

Dishes Prepared During the Session

1. Salad of cured fish with raw mango and greens.
2. Hearty 'margooga' stew with tender soaked bread.
3. Sweet cardamom-scented date bread.
4. Saffron-infused sago pudding.

Lunch: 1st Course

Lentil or parsnip soup.

Lunch: 2nd Course (Family style)

1. Cured fish salad.
2. Beetroot and tahini-labneh salad.

Lunch: 3rd Course (Family style)

1. Hearty 'margooga' stew with tender soaked bread.
2. Chicken roulade with dates, apricots and prunes, over smoked eggplant puree and a creamy roasted wheat (freekeh) risotto.

Lunch: 4th Course (Family style)

1. Saffron-infused sago pudding.
2. Emirati-style doughnut holes drizzled with date molasses.

The experience will be held at the Aseelah Restaurant in Radisson Blu Deira Creek.

Free valet parking is available - please make sure to have your ticket stamped at the restaurant.

Can I join the Emirati cooking session if I am vegetarian?

Yes! Please purchase a vegetarian ticket for the session. Most of the dishes can be prepared as vegetarian dishes, except the cured fish salad for which there is no substitute.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Please be sure to let us know if you (or anyone in your group) have a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, etc.) when you purchase your tickets. In most cases, nuts, lactose and gluten may be in the foods featured on our experiences and there is a risk of cross-contamination. If you have a serious allergy, we recommend contacting us at ‘munch@fryingpanadventures.com’ prior to purchasing tickets to enable us to advise you if our tours are suitable for you.

Are children allowed?

We do have an age limit for most tours. Please note the minimum age requirement (must be accompanied by a legal guardian) for the experiences below:

  • Middle Eastern Food Pilgrimage: 14 years
  • Little India on a Plate: 14 years
  • Dubai Souks and Creekside Food Walk: 8 years
  • Delicious Dubai Layover: No age limit, but a ticket must be purchased for children above 4 years
  • Food Tour on Wheels: 8 years
  • Sufra Experiences: As stated on each individual Sufra Experience page.
  • Unseen Trails: 18 years

Do you support corporate or private events?

We absolutely do! We can accommodate a variety of special requests (family reunions, birthday parties, out of town guests, corporate, team-building, familiarization trips, delegations and more).

What are the change policies on my booking?

We apply the following policy for any tour booking (excluding Sufra experiences), including one booked with a gift voucher / e-certificate:

  • Cancellation policy
    • 75% refund if 30 days or more before Trail
    • 50% refund if 14 to 29 days before Trail
    • 25% refund if 4 to 13 days before Trail
    • 0% refund if 1 to 3 days before Trail
  • Rescheduling policy
    • Rescheduling permitted within the same tour type only if request is received 14 days or more before the trail and if there is availability on the new date requested. Only one rescheduling request permitted per booking.
    • No rescheduling permitted if request is received less than 14 days before the trail or if there is no availability on the new date requested.
