Nats:

It’s Dubai 92! It’s your Wednesday with Jono and Nats on the big breakfast which means it’s our favorite time of the week because we get to chat to Arva from Frying Pan Adventures!

Jono:

Arva, where are you taking us to tantalize our tastebuds this week?

Arva:

Alright, let’s talk about this Chinese food court, and I’m not talking about the Chinese food court in Dubai Mall that everyone else is talking about. This is a Chinese food court called Canaan which is in Deira and all credit’s to my sister Farida for dragging the family there the other day. This place is off the hook! Have you heard of it?

Nats:

No, I haven’t!

Arva:

All right, so basically when you step into this, it’s a building that doesn’t look like anything on the outside. It’s just an ordinary building on Rigga Road. And when you step in, it is just counter after counter, all of these different incredibly looking super tantalizing Chinese streets! So I’m just going to give you a lay of the land but a lot of these things are anywhere from 6 dirhams to about, you know at the most expensive 36 dirhams.

Jono:

Wow!

Arva:

So you kind of have to have your strategies set. Yeah, you have to have your strategies set when you go in! So there’s a barbecue and stir-fry section. And the nice thing about the barbecue section is you don’t have to commit to like five skewers of something. You can get for six dirhams a skewer of their gorgeous, tender, barbecued mutton, or for example, if, you know chicken gizzards are your fancy like you can get a skewer of chicken gizzards or a skewer of squid. They even have some veggie options and then for 23 dirhams you can get their stir-fried chicken noodles and you schlop over their chili crisp which is basically this crunchy chili oil that they have at the table and it is wild! That’s 23 dirhams for that! You can schlop that sauce over everything!

Nats:

I want to schlop things!

Jono:

(laughing) Maybe a better choice of words, we’re doing better Nats.

Jono:

Are the menus in Chinese? Because this is obviously the thing that freaks me out when I go to International City. I’m like the menus in Chinese, I don’t know what to do, I just point at things. How does it work?

Arva:

No, the menus are not in Chinese and the best part is that the menu is up in English on Deliveroo. So you can decide your game plan before you go if you’re the kind who like myself, gets totally overwhelmed. So for example, one of the dishes that you have to get if you like prawns, I know Nats, you’re a big prawns fan. They have salt and pepper prawns. Yeah, so they have a special stir-fry section and those dishes go around 28 to 36 dirhams. One of those dishes is the stir-fried salt, or deep fried maybe, I don’t know, there’s some kind of fried salt and pepper prawns and they are so good. After a point, we stopped bothering to take the skins off and we just had them peels on.

Jono:

It is called Canaan Chinese Food Court! Well worth checking out at Deira Al Rigga Dubai. As always, we’ll have a video for this up on our Instagram. Arva, thank you so much. It’s just our favorite time of the week to chat with you and tantalize the taste buds. It’s just a treat for the soul.

Arva:

It’s mine too! Have a scrumptious week ahead guys!
