Learn the native Emirati cuisine at an Emirati cooking class that takes place steps away from the historic Dubai creek.
Emirati food has traditionally been cooked and savoured at home or in public kitchens known only to the locals. But recently, there has there been a newfound emphasis on sharing Emirati culinary heritage with residents and travelers alike. Chef Uwe Micheel, Director of Kitchens at Radisson Blu Deira Creek, President of the Emirates Culinary Guild and author of Flavours of Dubai, is a pioneer of Emirati culinary awareness and has launched an award-winning restaurant featuring both traditional and modern Emirati dishes.
Visit Chef Micheel’s restaurant, Aseelah, to learn about spices and ingredients used in Emirati cuisine. The session will begin with coffee, tea and date pastries to get you fueled up for the interactive demo. Chef Rabeh Amer, a Syrian-born chef with deep passion, curiosity and flair for Emirati cuisine and Chef de Cuisine of Aseelah restaurant, will lead the cooking session. Watch as he prepares four traditional dishes, and volunteer to toss, mix, knead and plate if you like! While the date bread will not last for more than a few seconds after it slides off the griddle, patiently wait for lunch to test your other three creations.
Walk away with recipe cards and the restaurant’s signature spice blend. If you’re an avid cook, buy a copy of Chef Micheel’s cookbook so you can recreate the flavours of this fragrant, hearty and resourceful cuisine at home.

Lentil or parsnip soup.
Lunch: 2nd Course (Family style)
1. Cured fish salad.
2. Beetroot and tahini-labneh salad.
Lunch: 3rd Course (Family style)
1. Hearty 'margooga' stew with tender soaked bread.
2. Chicken roulade with dates, apricots and prunes, over smoked eggplant puree and a creamy roasted wheat (freekeh) risotto.
Lunch: 4th Course (Family style)
1. Saffron-infused sago pudding.
2. Emirati-style doughnut holes drizzled with date molasses.
The experience will be held at the Aseelah Restaurant in Radisson Blu Deira Creek.

Yes! Please purchase a vegetarian ticket for the session. Most of the dishes can be prepared as vegetarian dishes, except the cured fish salad for which there is no substitute.
Please be sure to let us know if you (or anyone in your group) have a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, etc.) when you purchase your tickets. In most cases, nuts, lactose and gluten may be in the foods featured on our experiences. If you have a serious allergy, we recommend contacting us at ‘email@example.com’ prior to purchasing tickets to enable us to advise you if our tours are suitable for you.
